Born in Glasgow Scotland on February 17th 1963, Stephen and his family moved to Canada, then settled in Maryland in 1977.
After High School with his mentor Walt Bartman, Steve studied painting briefly at AU with Bartman's mentor Ben Summerford, then University of Maryland. In 1984 he returned to Montreal and lived there until 1996, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia Univ. in Montreal.
He's been a professional artist since the late 1980's, exhibiting in galleries and doing private commissions in Canada, the United States, France, Spain and the UK. The above painting is an example of a recent commisssioned piece, and hangs in Cacique Restaurant in Frederick, MD. He's had some success in Frederick where he presently paints, and has sold most of his plein air pieces either from his studio or from passersby while painting.
